PCs Are Not Toasters!

Ladies and Gentlemen, it's true: your PC is not a toaster. As much as Dell, HP, Acer, and the whole lot want you to believe that it is a toaster, you and your PC deserve better. What I mean by this is that PCs are reaching a point where simply buying a new PC is preferred over repairing a PC. Moreover, consumers are treating the PC like a toaster in their daily habits. You only spent $400 on it, right? Why spend another $200 in repairs? Just buy another one and be done with it, right? Wrong.

You've Been Duped

That's right, folks. Companies like Dell want you to believe that the aforementioned means of purchasing a PC is the way to go. If a penny is to be spent on the PC, they want it. This is why they build cheap boxes at dirt-cheap prices. These boxes have no chance of lasting as long as a higher-quality PC. These companies want your PCs to fail after a couple years.

It's a Mentality

Here's how the thought process works. You've only spent $400 on a PC, and you're staring at $250 more in repairs due to a dead motherboard. "I'm more than half way to a new PC anyways! I might as well just buy a new one and be done with it." So now you've decided to just buy a new PC for another $400. Did I mention that's another PC that will likely fail in two years? In another two years, you will likely make the exact same decision you made previously. You'll purchase another $400 PC. In six years, you just spent $1200 on PCs. Compare that to a higher quality $800 box that will last you those six years.

More than Just the Box!

Okay, you spent $1200 on all those PCs. But what about your data? Your programs? Your settings? Did you make backups? Did you pay someone to transfer that data for you? Now you're paying for data transfer, new copies of Microsoft Office (your OEM version of Microsoft Office cannot be transferred to a new PC, you know.) and possible set up of the new PC. This all adds into the total cost of ownership.

There's more to a PC than just the sticker price. The retail box makers want you giving them money frequently, and they're trying to design products that will support this. They want you paying for cheaper products that will break down and pin you into the decision to purchase another cheap box. The cycle will just continue until you decide to break it. These boxes are made from cheap material that will start underperforming quickly. Don't treat your PC like a toaster. Do yourself a favor and purchase a quality PC made from quality parts. You'll be happier in the long run, and you'll end up paying less. Have questions? Shoot us an email or give us a call.
